Ramadan
Safe fasting with medication
Do you participate in Ramadan and guse medication because of diabetes? Or would you like to know the best way to handle your medication use during the fasting period? Ask us how you can safely fast with medication for diabetes.
Your health first
Your body may react differently to medications due to different eating and drinking patterns. Taking medications and fasting can affect your health if you don't take the right measures. The consequences and risks vary by disease and medication. Never adjust your medication use yourself.
An example
If you take medication meant to be taken after a meal on an empty stomach, your body may react differently. And diabetes requires a different approach than, say, heart disease. Therefore, do not adjust your medication yourself. We adjust the advice to your personal situation.
.What can the pharmacy do? We can give you...
- medications that work longer, so that taking them once a day is enough;
- increase or decrease the dose of your medicine. This is sometimes necessary because a medicine can work more strongly if you eat less;
- give advice on when to take it. For example, if you are used to taking a medicine at breakfast. Other medicines, on the contrary, you should take them half an hour before a meal;
