Conception and contraception

Conception is when an egg is fertilized by a sperm cell, leading to pregnancy. Contraception prevents pregnancy by preventing fertilization or keeping a fertilized egg from nesting in the uterus. People use contraception to prevent pregnancy, for their health (such as for menstrual problems), for family planning, or to protect against STDs. Contraception offers control over your body and future.

Contraceptive methods

Famous contraceptives include: the pill, IUD and condom. Other contraceptives include: the oral contraceptive pill, the hormone rod, the hormone ring and the hormone patch. Which remedy suits you depends on what is important to you. Discuss this with your doctor. In the pharmacy we are happy to tell you more about the use of contraception and how it works. Forgetting your pill?

If you forget your pill once, it doesn't have to be a big deal. The chance of becoming pregnant if you forget the pill is higher if you:

forgot the 1st pill after the stop week
forgot 1 or more pills in the first week of your strip
forgot the pill 2 or more times in a row
also forgot pills earlier in the strip
forgot the pill in your first pill trip

The chance of pregnancy is lowest if you forget the pill in the 2nd week. This advice applies only to the single-phase combination pill you have been taking for 1 month.

Causes pill out of stock

There have been recent instances of poor pill supply. Now you may be thinking that the pharmacy is not buying in time? We understand your assumption. But the cause is something else.

It is difficult to pinpoint a specific cause. A combination of factors is causing an increasing shortage of various drugs in the Netherlands. Drug shortages occur all over the world. Yet in recent years, the Netherlands has seen a large increase in the number of drugs that are not available. Because worldwide drug production has shifted to India, there is a great dependence on only a few global producers. If production there suddenly comes to a halt, we eventually notice it in the Netherlands as well. In the Netherlands, we have low drug prices. This means that our country is not always attractive to the pharmaceutical industry for drug sales. Other countries take precedence for supply.
