Verkeerd gebruik van medicijnen kan leiden tot vervelende situaties. Zo kan het effect van je therapie minder zijn en het kan ook gevaarlijk zijn. Verkeerd medicijngebruik komt vaker voor bij mensen die meer dan vijf medicijnen gebruiken. Daarom stelt de Inspectie voor de Volksgezondheid als eis dat de apotheek een controlegesprek met je voert als je meer dan vijf medicijnen per dag slikt. Dit noemen we een medicatiebeoordeling of medicijngesprek. Dat kan plaatsvinden in de apotheek of bij jou thuis.

Een medicatiebeoordeling is een extra controlemiddel om te zorgen dat je veilig je medicatie gebruikt. Zo is er een controle bij het voorschrijven door je arts, wij doen een uitgebreide controle bij het afgeven van je medicijn aan de balie. En dit medicijngesprek is de aanvullende check.

What questions can you expect during a medication interview?

The pharmacist will go over a questionnaire with you. He/she will ask you the question:

  • about your actual medication use, "if necessary" use and use of self-care drugs;
  • if you sometimes forget medication and if you deviate from the prescribed use;
  • if you are aware of the reason why you are taking these medications;
  • whose prescriber prescribed the medication;
  • if the treatment is effective, if your symptoms have (mostly) disappeared or if you still have symptoms;
  • if you experience any side effects;
  • if you experience any use problems, for example swallowing problems, or using an inhaler. Or that the container may be difficult for you to open;
  • if you have concerns, expectations, wishes and questions about current therapy and previously used medications;
  • if you see opportunities to improve adherence.
