LSP

The National Switch Point (LSP) is a healthcare infrastructure. It is a network to which healthcare providers can connect. Through this network they can exchange medical data about their patients with each other. 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Landelijk Schakelpunt is specially developed and secured for this.

Why share data?

There are situations when you need care from a health care provider you have not been to before. Examples include hospitalization, or an unexpected visit to the doctor's office because you need immediate care. The healthcare provider you visit then has no information about you, which is annoying, especially when every second counts. It can delay or even frustrate optimal care. But if you have given permission to share the information, the healthcare provider can still access your information.

We therefore advise you to give us permission to share your data with other healthcare providers.

Medical data are not stored in the National Switch Point

The National Switch Point is not a database. No medical data are stored in it. Your medical data will simply remain in the files at the general practitioner and pharmacy. Other healthcare providers can view key information through the National Switch Point. But they can and may only do so if you have given permission.

Data sharing may only take place with your permission

If you give consent, your (family) physician and pharmacies will register your citizen service number (BSN) with the National Switch Point. Your BSN is stored in the so-called 'referral index' of the National Switch Point. If you go to another healthcare provider, he can search the referral index with your BSN. This allows him to see which healthcare providers have certain medical information about you available to share. The health care provider where you are being treated can then view the information they need for your treatment.
