Why do I have to pay a co-payment?

Sometimes you have to pay a co-payment for a medication. This is because similar medicines can differ in price. The government then sets a maximum reimbursement from the basic insurance. If the price of a medication is higher than this reimbursement, you have to pay an extra charge. That is the co-payment. Until December 31, 2023, this co-payment per person per year is up to € 250.

You can take out supplementary insurance with some insurers in which this co-payment is reimbursed. Want to know exactly how much you will be reimbursed for medication? Ask your health insurer.

Why do I have to pay extra for a first issue / counseling session for a new medication?

Do you receive a medication from the pharmacy for the first time? Then you will receive an explanation of your medication at the counter or in the consultation room. This counseling will help you use your new medication safely and consciously.

The pharmacy employee will check that your medication suits you and that the dosage is correct. And whether there are any interactions with your other medications. Then the pharmacy employee explains how to use the medicine properly. For safe medication use, the counseling interview is vital.

When you get a medicine for the first time, the pharmacy explains it in a conversation. We also call this a counseling interview or advisory interview.
You will also get this counseling interview if you were already using a medicine but picked it up more than 1 year ago. Officially, this conversation is called "Handing over and counseling conversation new medicine. It appears under that name on your health insurance bill.

Is the interview mandatory?

Yes, pharmacists and pharmacy staff must conduct a counseling interview. In doing so, the pharmacy ensures that you will take the medication correctly. Without a conversation, the pharmacy may not give you the medication.

What about direct debit?

We prefer to work with direct debit. That is easy for us and for you.
You just get the invoice, with the message that it will be collected automatically. You do not have to transfer money manually.
It also saves time for us because we do not have to look for your transfer on the bank statements but can process the direct debits all at once.
