If you apply too thick, you run the risk of side effects, and if you apply too thin, the drug will not work sufficiently. By using the correct fingertip quantity (FTU), you will have the optimal effect. A fingertip is about 0.5 grams of cream or ointment.
How many fingertips should I apply?
If you know the size of the area you need to apply, then you also know how many fingertips you need to apply as well as possible. The table below shows how many fingertips of cream or ointment you should apply.
What if the spot is smaller than my arm or leg, for example?
Sometimes the spot you need to apply cream to is smaller than the body part listed in the table. For example, if you need to apply cream to a spot on your hand or just the folds of your elbows, you can calculate how much to apply. To apply an amount of cream or ointment to a spot the size of the top of an adult hand requires half a fingertip.
