A day for men
Health, prostate, heart and vitality in the spotlight
Today is International Men's Day: a day especially for men. In the pharmacy, we see that men often only seek help when symptoms get worse. Still, the sooner you are there, the better. Whether it's prostate problems, erectile dysfunction, cardiovascular disease or low testosterone - good care starts with a good conversation.
.
The pharmacy thinks with you
The pharmacy is more than a place to pick up medicine. We also help you gain insight into your health.
We explain how to use medications, check that they go well together and advise on possible next steps.
Discussing topics such as prostate, hormones or erectile dysfunction can sometimes be tricky, but with us you can always come to us confidentially and without judgment.

Prostate complaints (BPH): common, treatable
As we age, the risk of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) - a benign enlargement of the prostate - increases.
You often notice it because you have to urinate more often, or that the jet becomes weaker.
According to the NHG-standard Mictyalgia in Men, medications such as tamsulosin or finasteride can help.
Sometimes the doctor will discuss a trial stop after a year, to see if medication is still needed. Never do this on your own initiative, but always in consultation with your doctor.
Vitamins and supplements: sense or nonsense?
There are many products that promise to support prostate or vitality.
According to the Pharmacotherapeutic Compass and the Government, there is little evidence that these supplements really help.
In addition, they may affect other medications. So always ask us if a drug is safe to combine.
Erectile dysfunction and testosterone: discuss it openly
Erectile dysfunction is more common than you think, especially if you have diabetes, high blood pressure or are overweight.
Drugs such as sildenafil (Viagra) are prescription-only and are prescribed only if medically justified.
Low testosterone can also cause symptoms such as fatigue or less desire for sex.
Always get this checked out through your doctor.
The RIVM warns that self-tests or online supplements are not reliable.
