Hay fever
What is hay fever?
Hay fever is an allergy in which you get symptoms from pollen (pollen) from grasses, plants or trees. Symptoms occur when pollen gets into the eyes, nose, mouth, throat or windpipe. Then the mucous membranes thicken and we produce more mucus. Hay fever is not dangerous, but it is annoying. The symptoms disappear when the pollen is gone from the air. The period when you suffer from hay fever depends on the flowering period of grasses, trees and plants to which you are allergic. This is usually between February and September, but the peak is in May and June.
What are the symptoms?
- a stuffy nose, runny nose, nasal itching or sneezing
- itchy and watery eyes
- a dry throat, sometimes with a tickling cough
- a full feeling in the head and a feverish feeling
- fatigue, tightness and a wheezing sound when breathing
