Spring and asthma: a tricky combination
Spring is a difficult time for many asthmatics. Pollen in the air, temperature changes and more outdoor activities can aggravate symptoms: more coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath or a cold that lasts longer than you're used to. Fortunately, there's a lot you can do about it. Good basic medication, proper inhalation technique and timely adjustments make a world of difference. Doubting whether your medication is still set properly? Feel free to come by.
Check first if your inhaler is being used properly
With a puffer, things often go wrong with pressing in too early, breathing in too quickly or not holding the breath long enough. A powder inhaler, on the other hand, may require a powerful, deep inhale. At the pharmacy, we can review your technique together in a few minutes; this often helps immediately.
Look at your supply
In pollen season, some people use their respiratory medications more often, so an emergency inhaler runs out faster. It's nice not to miss out. Through our repeat service, you get your medication delivered automatically.
Despite proper use, do you have more frequent symptoms or do you use your "respiratory remover" more and more often?
Then it is wise to discuss this with your family doctor or primary care physician. Sometimes a temporary adjustment of maintenance medication is needed, and in case of a severe inflammatory reaction, the doctor may prescribe a short binge course. This is customized.
In addition, pay attention to stimuli in the home:
Air briefly daily, vacuum regularly and prefer to dry bedding indoors when pollen levels are high. Going to exercise? Do a gentle warm-up and take your inhaler with you. Some people have a personal asthma action plan from their family doctor; take it with you to the pharmacy, and we can see if your inhalers and doses match it and if your technique is correct.
Three things you can do today:
