Non-deliverable, preferred drugs
Preferred policy
In the pharmacy we deal with non-deliverable preferred drugs. These are drugs that have been designated as "preferred" (preferred medicine) by your health insurer, usually because they are the cheapest. Each health insurer determines which drugs are preferred, and sometimes they may be temporarily unavailable. If a preferred drug is not available, we as pharmacies must find an alternative.
What this means?
This may result in you getting a different brand or drug. The number of non-deliverable preferred drugs varies by health insurer.
Overview
The chart below shows the number of preferred designated drugs that are not available in the indicated period. Health insurance companies purchase these medications. It is therefore also the responsibility of health insurers to ensure the availability of their designated drugs as much as possible. Source: SFK.
